Sourcing Fabrics For Your Business
The Remnant Warehouse have become a favourite supplier for businesses to turn to for their fabric, trim and haberdashery needs. This isn’t just limited to fashion designers & labels, but a variety of businesses across industrial, automotive, arts, educational, marketing and events sectors, to name a few.
The story behind our name (The Remnant Warehouse) is that we specialise in remnant fabrics. The majority of our stock has come in originally from designers and manufacturers locally in the fashion industry, rather than ordering in from a supplier or wholesaler. This presents a 'win - win - win' situation for all parties involved. Firstly, the designer benefits because they’re able to recoup some of the cost of what were essentially dead stock fabrics. This supports the designers financially and allows them to put the money back into their business, and continue to keep their business in Australia. Secondly, for us, we are able to purchase fabrics that are much more affordable than what we are able to obtain through wholesalers and manufacturers. And finally, our customers benefit by having the access to exclusive and unique fabrics that are near impossible to find else where, at prices that are cheaper than what the designers themselves had paid for them originally . Our customers are also able to access brilliant pricing without minimum order quantities, and can order what they need without having to commit to the roll size quantity, lowering wastage.
The bigger picture here is also the lowering of global textile production and all of the negative effects that this has on the environment. We are using what is already available (most of the time within driving distance of our shop) rather than increasing demand for fabrics that are ultimately manufactured overseas. Using designer sourced fabrics is decision that many businesses have made as part of their sustainability goals and strategy.
Having said this, there are some fabrics that we stock ongoingly for customers who rely on continual stock of the same products. These fabrics are indicated by a pink Stock Service bubble on the product on our website. If you try to order an amount of a stock service item on our website and our website is not allowing that quantity to go through, all it takes is a quick email to us to enquire on availability. The majority of our stock service items where the stock isn't already available in store will arrive into our shop between 2-3 business days, but this can vary depending on availability and order size.
If you're looking specifically to source designer remnant fabrics, stick to the items that don't have the 'stock service' pink bubble. Patchwork cottons are also one that we mostly order from a supplier, so while they aren't a stock service item they're also not designer remnant sourced.
We always recommend ordering samples first. While two fabrics may have the same name (for example Matte Spandex) it's likely that they came from 2 different sourced and vary greatly from roll to roll. If you know that you are going to need a minimum amount of a designer fabric, what you can do before spending time on sampling, you can try to add that quantity to the cart. If, for example, you try to add 20m to the cart and you get a message saying that there is only 2 available, then it's likely we only have 2-4m available. If, for example, it says that we have 18m available, you can always pop a quick email through to check, as we may in fact have 20m. As we operate a retail store and online store, we will often have a little buffer to help avoiding situations where a fabric sells out in store before we are able to take it off our online store. Please note that we are not able to place any fabrics on hold while you wait for samples to arrive.
If you have any particular fabric needs, you can also send us through an email and we can make recommendations. We try, where possible, to find designer fabrics that will suit your needs, as this is better for the environment and, more often than not, a more affordable option than the stock service items that are sourced through suppliers.
We offer every customer a 20% discount when they are ordering 10m+ of a fabric, and a 10% discount on trims for orders of 10m+ This is 10m+ of a particular item, not combined across several items. We do not wholesale or require an ABN or NZBN to obtain these savings, they simple apply automatically once you have added a minimum of 10m of that item to the cart.
Our online checkout will give you information on how long it should take to arrive, based on your address. Once you have added all of the items to the cart, gone to the checkout and entered your shipping address, all of the available methods will show. They will describe how the fabric will arrive (folded or on the roll) and the estimated time in business days that it will take to arrive once it has left our store. As Australia Post has a strict 1m limit and many dress fabrics are 150cm wide, so if you do need your fabrics to come on the roll, the road courier method will need to be selected. Fabrics may come rolled on top of each other for ease of transit, and also because we re-use all the card board rolls in our store and often have a shortage, so we try to preserve as many as we can. The courier option is suitable where all cuts are 10m+, it is quire difficult to roll on smaller pieces so these are best sent folded. All our stock is sent out of Sydney, Australia.
